Agree that Antrim's proposals make a lot of sense. Why can these not be put on the Clar at Congress? What then, is the process for getting Antrim's proposals debated at national level? Will the HDC proosals be the only ones available to vote on at Congress?

Antrim's proposals can be put onto the Clar for Congress and at this stage they have been submitted for this purpose. Generally though, unless they have the support of "the powers that be", they have no chance of success. Therefore, persuading them is now the key to this and that is ongoing.

For next year why don't we have a draft system for players. Antrim, Laois, Offaly, Dublin would buy/lease players from the top 4 counties. They have spare quality players that never get an oppotunity at county level. Antrim have a really good team developing now - a couple of players would really narrow the gap. In turn Antrim etc would lease players to Meath, Westmeath, Kildare, etc to aid their development. The draft auction could be run at the All Stars every year around January. We would have a championship with the best players - that would make things competitive.

You can forget about that one for all the obvious reasons.

Tell me this?

How can the HDC report to the press that they are discussing putting Antrim into the Leinster Championship next year? and Antrims own proposals (which i think are excellent and make more sense) cant even be debated until congress in the winter. Surely the HDC should have there proposals put on hold also till congress without talking the press as though its official although its not!!

Any proposals from HDC need to come before Croke Park's Management committee and then Central Council if they are going to get onto the Clar for a Special Congress. Antrim's proposals do not and can be put onto the Clar "on their own right". Nevertheless, it would seem prudent that a consensus motion is put to Special Congress to avoid the debacle that gave rise to the current structures.

What does it say about the morale of the camp and indeed the management that only 18 players travelled to Waterford at the weekend........

This is absolute twaddle. Get your facts right and stop listening to hearsay and gossip.

Is this the begining of the end of this rubbish hurling championship format?

Antrim should put there spoke in first to this rest of Ireland Championship and have it made round robin to give us more games. Whats the take of the board on the recent develpments of what looks like a step forward by the HDC?

Antrim submitted 3 alternative proposals some months ago. The preferred option was a round robin championship based on finishing positions in the National leagues. We will see if we can post these proposals on the site.

County Executive, please, please, please do not give into the temptation of a significant revenue stream, by permitting soccer to be played at Casement Park. This is a game supported and attended by sectarian thugs, the likes of which have no place in Casement Park or Aontroim CLG. Rugby, no problem! Soccer, no way!

The Antrim County Executive cannot and will not be permitting any games other than Gaelic being played in Casement Park. However, your assertion that soccer is "supported and attended by sectarian thugs" suggests that only these "thugs" support soccer and is way, way off the mark. In fact, such a statement in itself might be interpreted as a form of "sectarianism".

all this talk about the ulster u21 hurlings c'ship, was making me wonder, has antrim even started training, and what is their squad??

Yes, there have been quite a few sessions particularly with the senior squad. We don't have the panel at this stage.

Re U14 hurling development squad. I know you can't answer this but perhaps the selectors of this squad can, when will the squad be named as I am planning activities for August and would like to know if my son is included in the squad or not, thanks

There is no guarantee that they will read this and we would advise you to e-mail this query directly to Hurling Development manager Kieran Megraw or contact those coaches in charge of this squad.

Congratulations to St Johns on their double victory. These players will hopefully play a pivitol role in the county development squads over the summer and hopefully travel to Waterford in August in the attempt to win in the All Ireland competition, Sonny Walsh Cup, won two years ago by Antrim.

What about a rugby approach to refereeing? As soon as one word is said the ball is moved forward 10 yards, as soon as a swear word is sent towards a ref yellow card, maybe a red? Players would soon catch on. Unfortunatley there can be no stop to supporter abuse to the refs, this is down to the clubs. air play to the refs but!

This may seem to be a joke but I am serious about it:
Hurling in Leinster is not in a healthy state. The best way to improve matters there would be to move Kilkenny into the Muunster championship. What would be the pros and cons of such a move?

What about just doing away with this archaic system of basing championships on provinicial set-ups - hurling and football? Is it a coincidence that rugby and soccer all run their major competitions on a mini-league, then knock-out basis? Would there not also be a commercial benefit to tying league status to championship status and organising our premier competitions along these lines?

Sincere congratulations to the young lads of St Johns on winning their division of the feile, IN BOTH CODES.
I was in Sligo last year as a parent with Sean Stinsons, who got narrowly beaten in the final, so i am aware of just how big an achevement that was.
To put it into perspective, it means that in real terms St Johns were the best of the TWELVE other county champions in their section.
It shows what can be done by hard work, dedication, and good organisation.
Congratulations from the South West, and from all at Sean Stinsons.
